先前才遇到Serial Port的問題,結果KB沒看清楚,以為下列兩者的版本支援都相同。

若有新增以下兩種硬體設備,更新VMware Host 版本時要注意是否有支援囉 Orz

ESXi 5/5.1:更改成Output File的方式建立。 (ESX 4.0 可以直接在實體位置的地方選擇)

Change the Parallel Port Configuration in the vSphere Web Client

You can change the output file for peripheral device output and schedule the parallel port to connect when the virtual machine powers on.

Note

If you are changing the parallel port on a virtual machine that runs on an ESXi 4.1 or earlier host, you can send output to a physical parallel port on the host or to an output file on the host. This option is not available with ESXi 5.0 and later.

Procedure
1

Right-click the virtual machine and select Edit Settings.

a

To locate a virtual machine, select a datacenter, folder, cluster, resource pool, host, or vApp.

b

Click the Related Objects tab and click Virtual Machines.

2

On the Virtual Hardware tab, expand Parallel port.

3

For virtual machines running on ESXi 4.1 and earlier hosts, select the type of media for the parallel port to access.

4

Click Browse to navigate to the file location.

5

Type a name for the file in the Save As text box and click OK.

The file path appears in the Connection text box.

6

Select whether to connect the device whenever you power on the virtual machine.

You can change this setting when the virtual machine is either powered on or powered off.

7

Click OK.

VMware ESXi 5.0 :

KB:http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=1003129

VMware ESXI 5.0 supports physical serial and parallel devices. However, ESXi 4.1.x and earlier versions do not. All versions of ESX support physical serial and parallel ports.

Note: For ESXi Serial and Parallel port usage, see Parallel and Serial Port Configuration.

If you are using ESXi 4.1 and bwlow , you can configure and use a virtual serial or parallel port as a named pipe or an output file.

VMware recommends that you:
  • Use named pipes when you want to transfer data between two virtual machines using serial port.
  • Use an output file when you want to transfer data from a virtual machine to the ESXi host using a serial port or parallel port interface.
Note: Neither of these choices require any physical serial or parallel ports on the ESXi host. For information on configuring a virtual serial port to output to a named pipe or output file, see Add a Serial Port to a Virtual Machine in the vSphere Virtual Machine Administration Guide

VMware is actively working with over 250 partners to enable solutions that typically depend on serial port communication for ESXi. VMware ESXi is a more secure hypervisor architecture that enables third-party solutions through CIM providers.

Note: In ESXi 4.1 the virtual serial port can connect to a physical serial port or to a file on the host computer. For more information, see Parallel and Serial Port Configuration section from the vSphere Virtual Machine Administration Guide.
